AHOSKIE – Windsor Post 37 scored seven times in the third inning and used that outburst to top Ahoskie Post 102 here Wednesday.

Post 37 won the non-conference junior American Legion contest by a final of 16-5.

Windsor scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning.

Quinton Reynolds walked, stole second and scored on a Patrick Castelloe RBI-single to center.

Ahoskie evened the score in the bottom of the frame.

Bryan Merritt singled to center, went to second on a groundout and scored on a Brandon Terry RBI-double to deadlock the game at 1-all.

Windsor then broke the game open with seven runs in the top of the third.

Terrence Jackson started the outburst with a single to center. He then stole second and went to third on a wild pitch. Castelloe then drew a walk and, while he stole second, Jackson swiped home plate.

Castelloe then came home on an Austin Lee RBI-single to right. Lee stole second and went to third on a wild pitch before scoring on an error.

Alex Harmon drew a free pass and scored when Hunter Wynns singled to right. Tyler Baker then reached on a fielder’s choice before Reynolds singled. Baker scored on a Michael Scott RBI-single to right. Reynolds and Scott then came home on a Jackson triple to right making it 8-1.

Ahoskie came back to plate two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Everette Sawyer walked, stole second and scored on a Merritt RBI-single. Merritt went to second on wild pitch and scored when Eric Ortiz reached on an error to close the gap to 8-3.

Post 37 then added four more in the top of the fifth frame.

Matthew Weaver and Reynolds drew back-to-back walks before Scott had a bunt single to load the bases. Castelloe cleared the bases with a triple to right and then scored himself on a Cody Elliott RBI-single as Windsor took a 12-3 lead.

Windsor added another run in the sixth.

Harmon and Christian Bland had singles. Harmon scored when Weaver reached on an error to give Post 37 a 10-run (13-3) edge.

Ahoskie bounced back in the bottom of the inning, however, with two runs of their own.

Ackerman Grace singled to center before Stephen Umphlett and Tyler Jones drew walks to load the bases.

Austin Hurdle laced a two-run single to left to close the gap to 13-5.

The final three runs for the visiting team came in the top of the seventh.

Jackson had an RBI-triple while Castelloe and Elliott each produced an RBI-double to establish the final.

Windsor used three pitchers in the contest – Jackson, Reynolds and Weaver. Ahoskie also had three pitchers with Tyler Small, Jones and Hurdle spending time on the hill.

Windsor’s 15 hits were paced by Castelloe who had three hits and five RBIs. Jackson had three hits and three RBIs while Elliott and Scott had two hits each.

Ahoskie had seven hits led by Merritt who had two hits and an RBI. Hurdle had one hit and two RBIs.
