Calvin Parker, Sr.

Calvin Walker Parker Sr., 81 of Williamston died Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Martin General Hospital.
He was born September 16, 1928 in Ahoskie to Seth Thomas Parker and Ruby Wiggins Parker. He was a graduate of Ahoskie High School and attended Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in Dayton, Virginia and graduated from Kings Business College in Raleigh. He worked with IBM in Raleigh.
He served in the United States Army 5th Special Service Company in Kekura, Japan. He was in charge of a 15 piece dance band which traveled all over Japan with special service shows playing all types of military and popular pieces. He was the director of the band named “Esquires” and he also played the saxophone and was vocalist of the band.
He married Dorothy Louise Leggett Parker of Williamston on December 30, 1948. They made their home in Ahoskie until about 10 years ago when they moved to Williamston. He was a sales representative with W.H. Basnight Company in Ahoskie for over 40 years.
Survivors include his wife and a son, Reverend Robbie Parker and wife Malinda of Williamston; grandsons Scott Parker of Williamston, and Brad Parker of Staunton, Va.; and a sister LaVelle P. Hall and husband Lee of Tarboro.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 21 at 4 p.m. at Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Dean Harrell and Rev. Robbie Parker officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens at a private service.
Visitation will be at the home and the body may be viewed at Biggs Funeral Home in Williamston.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Memorial Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
