Garland Briley

Garland Ray Briley, 70, of Roxobel died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
A native of Pitt County, he was a member of The Church of God in Greenville.
Briley served in the United States Army and was honored with medals during his service to the United States, which included Chief Warrant Officer, National Defense Service Medal, 5 Good Conduct Medals, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals and Joint Services Commendation Medal.
Following retirement, he relocated to Roxobel, where was involved in the Roxobel Volunteer Fire Department. He attended Roanoke Chowan Community College, earning a degree in Criminal Justice and Business Administration.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Anders Briley; a son, Jeffery Allen Briley Sr. of Roxobel; a daughter, Jenny Briley Stamper of Ayden; a sister, Magdaline Spain of New Bern; and four grandchildren.
A funeral was held on Friday, Jan. 29 at Sandy Run Baptist Church in Roxobel with the Rev. Doug Spivey, the Rev. H.C. Boschen and the Rev. Polly Denny officiating. Burial with military honors followed at Roxobel-Kelford Cemetery in Roxobel.
