WINDSOR – Four people were injured in an automobile accident which occurred here Thursday morning.

According to a report filed by North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper J.G. Williams, a van was turning from U.S. 13 business onto U.S. 13/17 near Walker Funeral Home Thursday morning when a tractor-trailer ran a stop light and struck the van.

Two adults and two children were in the van and were taken for treatment. The driver of the van, Geron King, and two minors were taken to Bertie Memorial Hospital for treatment following the accident.

Conditions of those taken to Bertie Memorial were not available as of press time.

The right front seat passenger, Dwenetta King, was flown to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville via EastCare. She is still at PCMH and is listed in good condition.

Trooper Williams said the intersection was closed only long enough to allow EastCare to land on the scene. Emergency personnel, however, remained at the location for approximately an hour.

Following the investigation, Trooper Williams charged the driver of the truck, Robert Whitfield, 61, of Pikeville with entering an intersection with a stoplight emitting a steady red light.
