Gene Adams, Sr.

Gene Tunney Adams Sr., age 79, of Wakelon Road, Colerain, died Tuesday, January 5, 2009 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie.
A native of Bertie County, Gene was born September 22, 1930 and was a son of the late Thelma Hollomon and John Q. Adams Sr.
Gene was a member of Colerain Baptist Church and served in the US Army for four years as a Paratrooper of the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He retired after many years as a merchant of Colerain.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Amelia Adams; three sons, Gene Adams Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, of Windsor, Andy Adams of Colerain and John Roger Adams and his wife, Brenda, of Colerain; a brother, John Q. Adams Jr. of Melrose, Fla.; a sister, Lillian Dodson of Lancaster, Va.; eight grandchildren, Nichole Bradley, Noel Adams, Christopher Stacy, Steven Adams, Stephen Gillespie, April Gillespie, Brandon Fountain and Beth Chappell; and 11 great-grandchildren, Luke Stacy, Austin Bradley, Kaleb Bradley, Kelsey Bradley, Cole Bradley, Nick Adams, Wesley Fountain, Landon Fountain, Dylan Fountain, Michaela Respass and Jayden Respass.
A viewing will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2010 at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Colerain Baptist Church, Colerain, with Rev. Don Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Colerain.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Colerain Baptist Church.
