WINDSOR – The State Employees Credit Union will soon be moving its location here.

Construction is in full swing along the U.S. 13/17 by-pass in Windsor as the SECU branch plans to move from its current location in the Food Lion shopping center into its new building.

SECU Vice President Stanley Castelloe said the construction was an effort to provide better service to credit union members.

“We need a permanent facility of our own that is capable of handling a drive-thru,” Castelloe said. “We also need room to expand.”

The SECU office in Windsor originally opened in November of 2003 and the credit union began looking for land on which to build a permanent home nearly two years ago.

“We were able to buy the parcel we’re building on in December of 2008 and work began in earnest then,” Castelloe said.

Construction on the new facility, which began near Labor Day, is scheduled to be completed on May 29.

Service to customers will not be interrupted when the move is made, according to Castelloe.

“All moving will take place during the weekend,” Castelloe said. “We will close in our current location on Friday and open there on Monday.”

The construction of the new facility is welcomed by the town of Windsor.

“We’re certainly glad to see the State Employees Credit Union build their own facility and have a permanent location here in Windsor,” said Town Administrator Allen Castelloe. “We are excited and proud to have them working to expand their current location.”

Bertie County Economic Development Director Steve Biggs echoed those thoughts.

“We were excited to have the State Employees Credit Union when they came to Bertie County and we’re excited to see them building their own facility,” Biggs said. “Anytime you can add a good, clean organization or business, it is good for the county.”

Biggs said he believed the SECU would add more jobs based on their past record when they built a facility in other areas.

“They provide a great service for their members,” he said. “We’re grateful for our banks and other credit unions and we’re thankful for the SECU to be adding their own facility.”
